If you have a minor child and you pass away without an estate plan, a Judge will ultimately decide who raises your child. Although you may have verbally appointed a family member or friend and they have agreed to look after your child in the event of your death, unless that plan is spelled out in a valid estate plan, there is no guarantee that your child will end up with that person.

At Reid Council Law Firm, our Will and Trust packages include nomination of guardians. Do not leave it up to a Judge, whom you have never met and who has not met your child, decide who will raise your child.
