5 Expensive Legal Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make (5 of 5) – Not Having a Privacy Policy on Your Website

five reasons your business needs GDPR compliant surveys. GDPR letters

The fifth biggest mistake entrepreneurs make is not have a privacy policy on your website.

A Privacy Policy is simply a notice you make available to visitors of your website saying what personal information you collect and what you do with it. Go to your favorite website and scroll to the bottom and chances are you’ll see a Privacy Policy you can click and read. For example, if you collect people’s names and emails so you can send them a newsletter, you need to disclose that in your Privacy Policy. If you track people’s data using cookies so you can retarget them, you need to disclose that too.

A tip on writing your Privacy Policy: don’t simply copy the language off the website of a similar business. Privacy policies are intellectual property (see Expensive Mistake #4) and copying someone else’s could be a violation of copyright law.
